Weather data for Denton, Texas, reported on this site is also reported to The National Weather Service and NOAA as part of the Citizen Weather Observer Program, although this site has no other affiliation with the NWS or NOAA.
Rain amounts are cross-checked with two gauges and corrected, if necessary, after the event has passed. If the real time reading on the main page of this site (actually it's a 7 to 9 minute delay) varies at all from the NWS-standard manual gauge (CoCoRaHS), then the manual gauge trumps the real time gauge and the corrected amount is entered site-wide.
All data here is collected with precision equipment: a Davis Instruments Vantage Pro2 Weather Station.
Launched in the Spring of 2013, DentonRainfall.com is a one-person operation managed by local weather enthusiast, Keith Clementson - artist, graphic designer and web site designer/programmer/administrator, a resident of Denton for the past 22 years and the creator of all photography, art and design on this site.
Although this site was originally founded to more accurately represent rainfall amounts for people who live in, or near, the 76205 zip code -- because official rainfall totals are measured several miles away at the Denton airport, and because rainfall amounts can vary significantly (sometimes greatly) only a few blocks away -- folks outside this area can also benefit from the Area Rainfall section.
Thank you for stopping by and I hope you find this site useful.
