Denton, TX Volunteer Rainfall Totals

Denton rainfall totals and rain amounts
...or the lack thereof.

Weather data for Denton, Texas, reported on this site is also reported to The National Weather Service and NOAA as part of the Citizen Weather Observer Program, although this site has no other affiliation with the NWS or NOAA.

Rain amounts are cross-checked with two gauges and corrected, if necessary, after the event has passed. If the real time reading on the main page of this site (actually it's a 7 to 9 minute delay) varies at all from the NWS-standard manual gauge (CoCoRaHS), then the manual gauge trumps the real time gauge and the corrected amount is entered into both the homepage and the appropriate "Previous Rain" time slot.

Any weather data labeled with "(NWS)" appended to it denotes data coming from the National Weather Service's Denton Municipal Airport station. An example would be "Dew Point (NWS):". All other data here is collected with precision equipment: a Davis Instruments Vantage Pro2 Weather Station. Denton's official current temperature is displayed by way of a feed from Accuweather.

Launched in the Spring of 2013, is a fledgling operation hatched by local weather enthusiast, Keith Clementson - an artist, graphic designer and web site designer/programmer/administrator, a resident of Denton for the past 16 years, and a lifetime resident of Texas.

Although this site was originally founded to more accurately represent rainfall amounts for people who live in, or near, the 76205 zip code -- because official rainfall totals are measured several miles away at the Denton airport, and rainfall amounts can vary significantly, sometimes greatly, in such short distances as a few blocks away -- folks outside this area can also benefit from this additional information.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you find this site useful.
